Always use Mounjaro exactly as directed in the patient information leaflet or as advised by your doctor or Clinic AHMU pharmacist.

Mounjaro should be taken once a week on the same day, though you can choose any time during that day for your injection. If needed, you can change the day of your weekly dose, ensuring that there is at least a 7-day gap between doses.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible within 96 hours (4 days). If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and continue with your next scheduled dose. Do not take two doses within 72 hours (3 days) of each other.

Supplies Needed for Mounjaro Injection:

• Mounjaro KwikPen
• A compatible KwikPen needle
• An alcohol swab
• A gauze pad or cotton ball
• A sharps disposal container

How to Use Your Mounjaro KwikPen ?

1. Preparation: Begin by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Remove the pen cap and inspect the pen and label. Do not use the pen if:
   • The medication name or dose does not match your prescription.
   • The pen is expired, damaged, or has been frozen.
   • The liquid contains particles, is cloudy, or discolored (it should be colorless or slightly yellow).
2. Attaching the Needle: Wipe the red inner seal with an alcohol swab. Take a new pen needle (4 needles are provided with your Mounjaro KwikPen) and remove the paper tab from the outer needle shield. Attach the capped needle by pushing it straight onto the pen and twisting it until secure. Remove and keep the outer needle shield for later use, then dispose of the inner needle shield in a household bin.
3. Priming the Pen: Turn the dose knob until you hear two clicks and see the extended line in the dose window. Adjust if necessary until the correct position aligns with the dose indicator. Hold the pen with the needle pointing upwards and gently tap the cartridge holder to collect any air bubbles at the top. Push the dose knob in fully and hold it for a slow count of five. The ‘0’ icon should be visible in the dose window. If you do not see liquid emerge from the needle, repeat the priming steps up to two more times. If the issue persists, change the needle and repeat the priming process one more time. If no liquid appears, consult your healthcare provider.
4. Injecting the Medication: Select an injection site on your stomach (abdomen), thigh, or upper arm. Rotate injection sites weekly, using a different area within the same region if needed. Turn the dose knob until it stops and the ‘1’ icon appears in the dose window. Insert the needle into your skin, press the dose knob in fully, and hold for a slow count of five. Ensure the ‘0’ icon appears in the dose window before removing the needle.
5. After the Injection: If you notice bleeding, lightly press the injection site with a gauze pad or cotton ball—do not rub the area. Carefully replace the outer needle shield and unscrew the capped needle, disposing of it in a sharps container. Do not store the pen with the needle attached, as this can cause leakage, blockages, or air entry into the pen. Replace the pen cap before storing.

Disposing of Your Mounjaro KwikPen and Needles

Used needles must be placed in a sharps disposal container immediately after use. Do not dispose of needles in household waste to prevent injury and contamination. Once you have used your Mounjaro KwikPen four times (one month’s use), discard the pen (without the needle) in your regular household bin.
