Description

What is Oral Minoxidil 2.5mg?

Minoxidil 2.5mg tablets are a  off-label treatment for male pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia). Originally licensed for high blood pressure at higher doses, low-dose oral Minoxidil is now widely approved by hair loss specialists for its hair growth benefits. At 2.5mg, it is common for men.

How does it work?

Minoxidil is a vasodilator — it widens blood vessels, increasing the flow of oxygen and nutrient-rich blood to the scalp and hair follicles. This nourishes the follicles and prolongs the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle, combating thinning and shedding and increasing hair density.

Oral vs Topical Minoxidil

  • More convenient for those who find topical application difficult
  • Some clinical evidence suggests oral Minoxidil produces superior regrowth in certain patients
  • Systemic absorption means a different side effect profile to topical formulations
  • May cause increased body hair growth as a side effect

How to take it

Take one tablet once daily, whole (do not crush or break), with or without food, at the same time each day.

How long does it take to work?

Stabilisation of hair loss is typically noticed within 3–6 months of continuous daily use. Treatment must be maintained every day to preserve beneficial effects. Stopping treatment leads to a return to baseline.

Who should not take oral Minoxidil?

  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Anyone under 18
  • People with heart, liver, or kidney problems
  • People already taking blood pressure medication
  • Anyone allergic to Minoxidil or its components
